How to save money on homewares

Decorating your uni room can be so fun. You can achieve your dream uni room on the cheap, especially if you're hunting for deals.

As always, we want to make sure that you're not feeling hard done by or out of pocket when you're kitting out your uni house for the academic year, so we've put together our best tips for getting the most out of your money when it comes to buying homewares.

You will find that a little bit can go a long way towards making you feel more comfortable in your student accommodation.

  1. Decorate your own room

Simple room decorations can make a world of difference, so we highly recommend grabbing some so you can feel 'at home' at uni!

We love looking for deals on fairy lights, artificial vines, pillows and bedding. These are just a few things that can transform your room into a lovely haven.

  2. Get cheap pots and pans

So you're in uni… and going to have to cook (eek!). You'll definitely be needing some pots and pans to make some tasty meals.

Although it does seem hard to part with your student loan for something so necessary. Make sure you're getting a great deal.

  3. Grab blackout blinds for £5

Sadly, most of us have lived in houses (especially student houses) where the curtains are barely a couple of sheets of tissue paper. This does make it increasingly more difficult to lie in so you miss that dreaded 9am.

Never fear! We have a solution. IKEA (and other retailers) make £5 stick-on blackout blinds which come off clean for the end of your tenancy. Happy days.

  4. Make clever use of storage boxes

It can be difficult to make your room look vaguely tidy if you have no storage solutions. Under-bed storage boxes can help to transform your living area dramatically, whilst having an organised space to keep those extra things you won't be using on a daily basis.

  5. Know what to take to uni

You'll need to figure out exactly what to take to uni so that you're not spending money unnecessarily on things you won't use.

Having a checklist in place is super important, so use the one we've created for ease.

  6. Get peelable wall stickers and hooks

The best decoration tip out there! Make your room super homely with fairy lights, wall tapestries and stickers.

The best part is that they peel off clean so you don't have to wave goodbye to your deposit!

  7. Know that TKMaxx is your friend

TKMaxx often has branded and great quality products for a fraction of the retail price. It's a great place to go for candles, bedding and other decorations.

You can grab some brilliant bargains but sometimes it's being in the right place at the right time. Different branches of TKMaxx will hold different stock too, so keep this in mind!
