How to set up and use an alias email address

Every now and again we post a deal such as a freebie or competition where you have to enter your personal details in order to get involved. However, there's no such thing as a free lunch and many of the companies that take your personal details are doing so for a reason - they want you on their contact list!

The downside is that this can lead to your email account being spammed or inundated with marketing messages.

We suggest that you set up an alias or "competition" email address to avoid spam.

To do this you can either:

  • set up a new email address on Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo (other providers available)
  • or create a throwaway email address on a website such as mailinator which you can check at any time.

It's important to note that for some freebies and competitions you might have to confirm your email so make sure that you check these alias email addresses regularly.
