The Budget 2016, Best Uni For Student Experience, Amazon Easter Deals Week…

Highlights of the 2016 Budget

George OsborneThe Chancellor George Osborne released his Budget on Wednesday - it was confusing and a little boring (soz, George) but there were a few important points that could affect you!

Luckily, there was nothing to majorly concern students (although the same cannot be said for other groups) but a sugar tax has been announced, meaning the price of your fave sugar-loaded fizzy drinks will soon increase! On the plus side, the duty paid on beer and cider has been frozen so that won't go up in price.

Our take: Who needs to tune in to BBC News and hear Osborne drone on whilst trying to work out what he's saying when we have compiled all the key points from the Budget to save any head-scratching and confusion here! The sugar tax seems to be dividing people, however - will it encourage people to drink fewer sugary drinks, or for manufacturers to change recipes... or is it a waste of time?

Loughborough Uni best for student experience

loughborough uni

Loughborough University has been named the best uni for student experience in a survey by The Times.

The annual Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey (a very catchy title, I must say) asks 15,000 students to rate their uni on aspects such as teaching, social life and how capable the uni is at catering to individual needs. Harper Adams University, an agricultural uni which only became a full uni in 2012, came second in the survey.

Our take: Loughborough University seems to be a pretty poplar uni in recent years - last year it was the most popular first choice for potential students. It's great to see universities other than Oxbridge getting recognition - and big congrats are in order for Harper Adams University too!

It's Amazon Easter deals week!

pug easter

It's hard to decide what's the best thing about Easter - chocolate or awesome deals? That's not a choice I ever want to make so why not search out some cracking deals whilst stuffing your face full of chocolate during Amazon's Easter deals week?

Every day until Thursday 24th March, Amazon will list 'Deals of the Days' and 'Lightening Deals' for limited-time bargains. Amazon says that 1,000s of products will be included, but cannot say what they are or how much they will be. Amazon Prime members also get first dibs on some items which will be earmarked 'Prime Early Access Deal'.

Our take: They won't reveal what's on offer until it's live, so it's a case of checking Amazon frequently (here) and following us on Facebook where we will post any unmissable buys! If you don't have Amazon Prime, now would be a good time to sign up for a free Prime trial so you can get early access!

Price of stamps to increase

royal mail stamps

The price of stamps will rise for the third consecutive year. Boo!

The Royal Mail has announced that from Tuesday 29th March, the cost of stamps will increase by 1p. A first class stamp will now cost 64p whilst a second class stamp will be 55p. Since when were stamps so expensive?!

Our take: Got a lot of post to send this year, or just need some stamps on hand just in case? You can beat the price increase by buying stamps now so use later. Alternatively, there is actually a way to get free stamps from the Royal Mail...

Co-Op Easter meal deal

Co-Op have started a new frozen meal deal just in time for Easter!

Until the 30th March, you can get an absolutely brilliant Easter deal for just £10. The deal includes lamb, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, peas, carrots as well as profiteroles and ice cream for dessert.

Our take: Whether you're doing Sunday lunch on a budget or just really love lamb, this is a great bargain! Perfect to share with friends and family (but maybe not the ice cream - no one shares ice cream).
