Cadbury and Oreo are recruiting for a chocolate taster – here’s how to apply

The company behind Cadbury and Oreo are looking for not one, not two, not three, but FOUR chocolate taste testers.

Every once in a while, a job comes along that makes you think that maybe – just maybe – life after uni might not be so bad after all.

Usually graduation means becoming a fully grown adult – in other words, eating properly, getting up at a normal time, and generally not messing about all day, everyday.

But what if you could get a job that allowed you to continue the fun?

Well, that dream could soon become your reality, as the company behind Cadbury, Oreo, Milka and more is offering four lucky people the chance to become fully-fledged taste testers – and we've got the details on how to apply.

What's the job?

The company in question, Mondelez, is in the market for three Chocolate Tasters (yes, that's the actual job title) to join the team at their office in Reading, South East England.

And as if that wasn't enough, they're also looking for an additional Chocolate & Cocoa Beverage Tester (and again, that's literally what you'll be able to put on your CV should you ever be stupid enough to get a new job).

The hours and salary are absolutely perfect for students, too. You'll either work for 7.5 or 8 hours a week, which as far as we're concerned is pretty much the same time we'd spend eating chocolate anyway.

As for the dollar, Mondelez say that you'll earn "approximately £9 per hour". "Approximately" is a bit of an odd way to describe it, but hey, we're not complaining – the fact that they're offering to pay anything for eating chocolate is enough for us.

Oh, and if you're thinking "the job sounds great, but I bet it involves loads of other boring tasks", we've got even more good news for you: it doesn't. According to the job advert, your only responsibility will be to taste the products and give feedback in group sessions. That's it.

How can you become a chocolate taster?

Pretty much every student ever will be familiar with what we're going to dub "The Experience Paradox" ©. You're looking for your first part-time job, and even the most entry-level retail positions require previous experience. BUT HOW CAN I GET EXPERIENCE IF EVERY JOB NEEDS EXPERIENCE?!

Anyway, rant over. Mondelez seems to just get students, because the job advert literally says "no experience is required", and that they'll provide full training to whoever they hire.

That said, they have listed a few conditions that they'd like applicants to meet. According to the job listing, they're looking for someone with the following qualities:

1. A passion for confectionary and taste buds for detection
2. Honesty and objectivity when it comes to giving an opinion
3. Eagerness to try new and inventive products
4. A communicative personality to build great relationships with your panel
5. Articulate with a firm grasp of the English language

If you make it to the interview stage, you'll have to take part in an assessment day. Fortunately, that doesn't sound too taxing either – it involves "tasting up to 10 samples per day" and then working with a group to discuss your findings.

Anyone who makes it past this delicious strenuous hurdle will then be called back for the final stage of the process, which Mondelez says involves "a short competency based interview". There's no word on whether or not this involves choc too, but we'll go out on a limb and say that it probably does.

What will you be taste testing?

We'd never heard of Mondelez before this story came to light, but it turns out that they're a pretty big deal. They're one of those faceless mega corporations that owns about 2,000 smaller companies that you are familiar with, and their portfolio is something to behold.

Just remember that as the job involves taste testing, there's a good chance that you'll probably be trying new recipes, as opposed to bar after bar of Dairy Milk. We're sure you'll cope.

What if you're not a chocolate fan?

First of all, what's wrong with you?

Second of all, don't worry! There are plenty of awesome taste testing jobs out there, even for people that don't like chocolate.
