Asda Cancels Black Friday, TalkTalk Hack Upgrade, Cat Moves In To Sainsbury’s…

Asda cancels Black Friday

blackfriday

'Black Friday' is a phrase that either paralyses you with fear, or fills you with utter excitement. It's a US craze that has travelled overseas thanks to the promise of awesome bargains.

This year, Black Friday is on 27th November. Asda will not be taking part however - they say that their customers don't want quick deals on expensive products. Instead, Asda will be cutting prices on toys, electronics etc in the weeks running up to Christmas. (Which is only 6 weeks away, may we add!)

Our take: 6 weeks til Christmas?! Okay, nobody panic... We've got a student discount directory to help you save money on gifts, or you can try to brave the Black Friday sales! Feeling lazy, or like the last-minute rush to buy presents? Here are 12 gifts to buy on Christmas day so there are no excuses this year!

TalkTalk customers offered free upgrades

Talktalk Price Hikes

The only type of hacking we like involves reviving old food, but unfortunately TalkTalk were a victim of a cyber attack last month and lots of customers had their info stolen.

From December 1st, all TalkTalk customers - not just those who had their data stolen - will be offered an upgrade as a way of an apology. Customers can choose from a TV package, mobile SIM, unlimited UK calls or a broadband health check (this last one doesn't sound as exciting as the rest...).

Our take: Details are a little confusing at the moment, such as how long the upgrade will last for. Still, it's nice to get something extra - but maybe it would've been better to offer customers a discount off their next bill?

Nectar Double Up event next week

Sainsbury's Nectar Card

Got some spare Sainsbury's Nectar points? From 18-24th November, you can double up your points to spend in various departments in store. Perfect for presents for the C-word! (Sorry for mentioning it twice in this round-up, but you cannot escape it...).

This event is valid on toys, Taste the Difference range, electronics, clothing and homeware. Choose your department and then exchange your points at the customer service till in store - Double Up is NOT valid online and vouchers must be spent by the 24th November.

Our take: This event isn't as generous as Tesco's Clubcard Boost, but it can be a great opportunity to spend any Nectar points you have laying around!

£12 electricity rebate for every household

electricity

Electricity is SO EXPENSIVE, everyone knows that unless you're lucky to live in accommodation that covers bills!

For the rest of us, there is a small piece of good news - every household will get a £12 rebate on their electricity bill. This will automatically be applied on your next bill, unless you're a pre-pay customer, in which case you'll receive a letter from your supplier about how to get your rebate.

Our take: £12 won't go far, but it's better than nothing... right? If you're finding your energy bills are high, we have some tips to save money, but you may be better off switching supplier  - it's not as scary as it sounds, find out how to switch here!

New £5 Co-Op Meal Deal

co op meal deal chicken

Freezer a bit bare? Treat yourself to Co-Op's frozen meal deal! This time it's a real feast (you don't have to share) - a chicken pie, chips, carrots, jam roly poly and ice cream. All for £5!

You have to buy everything to get the deal and there are no substitutions. The deal is on until the 1st December so you have plenty of opportunity to get down to your nearest Co-Op and stock up!

Our take: Mmm, pie! This would be perfect to serve to your housemates for dinner, but really you could keep it all to yourself!

Cat refuses to leave Sainsbury's

sainsburys cat

Grocery stores are magical places, all that food is simply heaven - who wouldn't want to live there?!

According to Twitter user Jenny Stevens, a fluffy ginger cat wandered in to the Brockley branch of Sainsbury's Local and found himself a nice spot to chill. He was removed by security, but in a defiant act of anarchy he returned shortly afterwards to reclaim his spot. The cat is called Olly and is apparently a regular customer.

Our take: If anyone needed further proof that cats simply don't give a damn, this is it... Such a rebel - but such a cutie! This story is also an awesome excuse to mention the Sainsbury's Christmas ad with a cat in it (watch here). It's our favourite!
