Cheapest meal revealed

If you are stuck for ideas for cheap meals to pull you through lunchtime and our Lunch Time Super Savers do not do it for you then the cheapest lunch time meal has been revealed.

The Royal Society for Chemistry has been in search of the cheapest meal ever and they munched their way to the answer.

We know you want to know what it is so here it is…. A toast Sandwich! Sounds a bit dry right? Well, we can take you through how it is made and tot up the total cost (as little as it is).

How to make a toast sandwich

Ingredients

  • 3 x Slices of bread
  • Butter
  • Salt & Pepper

Cooking Instructions

  • Toast 1 slice of bread
  • Butter the other two slices of bread and season with salt and pepper
  • Put the toast between the bread and voila!
Total cost = 7.5p

I actually tried this this morning out of curiosity and it wasn't too bad. It was also quite filling to say the least. This could be one of our best bits of student money advice ever.

Apparently the recipe is over 150 years old and was created by Mrs Beeton. Why not try it yourself.

As an added bonus, if you can find a cheaper meal then you could win £200 from the royal society for chemistry.
Good Luck and enjoy!
