Job description
Delivering the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, Transport for London (TfL) is responsible for one of the world’s most successful urban transport networks. We are a truly unique organisation, providing the travel system and infrastructure upon which London relies. The graduates that join TfL will enjoy just as much impact on the Capital. You could explore engineering or finance; procurement or management; transport planning or project management; quantity surveying or IM. You might find yourself running an entire Underground station; examining how London’s transport infrastructure fits together; or putting a project into place that could radically change how people travel across the city. TfL certainly doesn’t shy away from giving their graduates heavy responsibility, very early on.
Initially your placements will provide you with the core skills and learning you will need to understand your business area. Over the life of the scheme you will begin to move into placements that meet your own particular career aspirations given the range of business opportunities that your sponsor will discuss with you. Finally, you will move into your first substantive role; and your second step on your career with us.
Schemes include Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Commercial Procurement, Finance, General Management, Transport Planning and Information Management.
Company information
Delivering almost the entire London travel network, we manage everything from the London Underground and London Buses, to London Riverboat Services, London Trams and 580km of the Capital’s roads. But we don’t just get people from A to B. The services we supply ensure the economic and social wellbeing of one of the world’s greatest cities. In fact, London relies heavily on the infrastructure and transport network that we provide.
We’re not just thinking about today though. We’re also planning for tomorrow – building a transport network fit for a 21st century city. We’re playing a vital role in preparing London for the Olympic games, and in creating a more sustainable future for the Capital. To ensure we’re able to do this, we are improving and expanding the network, and investing in some of the most exciting projects the Capital has ever seen.
As well as a competitive starting salary of £25,000pa, you will also receive:
- Free travel throughout the TfL network for you and someone else in your household
- Interest-free loan and 75% off the cost of annual tickets for travel outside of the TfL network
- 30 days annual leave and all bank holidays
- TfL final salary pension scheme
- Health club & gym discounts
- Optional private medical insurance
- Fantastic training opportunities and support with becoming chartered or gaining a further qualification e.g. Masters
