Unhappy The end of the BOP?

The legendary and very cheesy BOP at Owen's Park (OP) bar in Fallowfield has been rumoured to have been pulled by the university! It was a Friday night classic involving lots of 'green monsters', huge queues and smurfs. The night has always been extremely popular and packed out most weeks.

It will be the biggest shame for the freshers and students living in owen's park halls. What are your best memories from the BOP? Any news on whether it may come back or even move venue let us know!!

For those freshers that didnt know the BOP was a student club night ran at owens park bar every Friday! it had a theme and was an amazing smash fest! i rarely made is past 12 in that place, thanks to an amazing drink called the green monster.
Well anyway i will cut to the chase! after 28 years of running the university has chosen to close it down because of the "binge drinking" culture that it promotes. there is a group on facebook to protest! check it out.

i feel so emotionally wrecked right now !

this seems a recent trend aswell. in Portsmouth the university shut down the unio club to replace it with a studying centre! i know it is important to study when you come to university but you also have to let your hair down and meet new people and experience noew things! i think that the universities are going over the top in their bid to cut binge drinking as the students will just go elsewhere anyway!
what does anyone else think?

What a joke. Can't believe they've stopped it.

Where to get green monsters and other cheap cheap drinks now? It was great for drinking games and not worrying about your dosh.

I know they stopped it because of people getting too lairy on campus, but they can't stop people from going elsewhere drinking and then returning to OP at night. And there was also the issue with the bouncers who were even worse than the average bouncer.

I'm going to have to mourn the loss of BOP by getting extremely drunk

It is true that the bouncers were pretty bad but i thought this added to the experience! it was a lottery if you were going to get in or not haha! more excitement!

BOP is moving (back) to Jabezz Clegg (oposite UOM Student Union). They promise to keep the same crazy drinks, prices and cheesy cheap music!

i dont agree! i think it has now died! fair play to the people trying to resurect it and everything but it will never ever be the same! i am personally so angry at the universtiy! i have been speaking to alot of friends over the country and it seems like unions etc are getting closed down in the same trend!!
