Student fashion essentials for winter
With predictions of snow in the on coming months and a currently windy Britain, it’s time to unleash the knitwear, the gloves and our favourite snugly trench coats.
It is time to step back in the past with a wardrobe Audrey Hepburn would be proud of, as January 2012 is the season of 1940’s tailoring, bold coloured knitted wear and lavish accessories.
The multi-decade jacket
One item to invest in this January has to the timeless swing coat. It is almost guaranteed due to its beautiful tailoring and vintage-esque appeal, that this classic will be bang on trend almost every season. Visiting the High Street, it is almost impossible to escape the array of beautiful coloured long cosy coats, mainly donning this seasons colours red and plum and featuring a trim of fur along the cuffs and collar.
If you’re a student on a budget, who has a secret passion for designer clothes, look no further than this Topshop swing coat, very reminiscent of 1940’s Chanel.
It’s that time of year again where we are dreading getting the flats out and our glamorous heels are sitting at the back of the cupboard waiting for spring, but fear not, there are plenty of beautiful shoes to choose from this winter and winter shoes couldn’t be more glamorous.
The classic riding boot is a wardrobe necessity for anyone trying to rock the ‘Country girl chic’ look this winter. If riding boots aren’t quite your style, Office has a collection of brightly coloured wellies from the ever so popular Hunter brand. Choosing from knee high or thigh high, wellies to booties, your legs will be left feeling warm and waterproof whilst travelling to university.
Finally, for those who are stubborn like me and refuse to give up their heels in whatever weather, Topshop has some great wedges that offer your feet support whilst running in the rain and these closed off heeled boots from New Look are bound to make a fashion statement, as well as keeping your feet lovely and dry.
Winter gloves are present all over the High Street, but it’s sometimes difficult to choose which you prefer. This season’s trend is all about the leather glove. Looking classy and sophisticated, the leather glove offers waterproof protection and a stylish way to keep them hands warm this winter.
My favourite leather gloves are on www.fashionunion.com where you can get beautiful, soft leather gloves for £15 in an array of different colours. Another great stylish accessory from the Fashion Union is this beautiful mustard coloured scarf retailing at £9, perfect for a splash of colour within your outfit.
So there we have it, a collection of beautiful items to start your 2012 wardrobe. One mantra to abide by this year is experiment with colour and don’t be afraid to let your true colours shine. Let’s begin 2012 the fashionable way and show everyone that Uni students can be fabulously stylish on a budget.
